I. Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this role is to safely operate a heavy-duty truck to complete assigned tasks on designated transfer routes.
II. Key Responsibilities
To succeed in this position, the individual must perform the following essential duties effectively. Additional minor duties may be assigned as needed.
- Vehicle Operation and Safety: Operate the vehicle in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and all local, state, and federal laws. Maintain a clean and safe vehicle at all times.
- Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of the assigned vehicle using the standard Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR). Document any issues on the DVIR for corrective action.
- Incident Reporting: Immediately report unsafe situations, service calls, or issues to the Route Manager or Dispatch before attempting service.
- Training and Collaboration: Participate in scheduled training sessions, briefings, and meetings as required. Work closely with Route Managers to enhance route efficiency and address unsafe or problematic accounts.
- Route Assignments: Complete all assigned duties as scheduled by the Route Manager or Dispatch, including assisting other drivers as needed.
- Incident and Issue Notification: Inform the Route Manager of any accidents, injuries, property damage, or route-related issues. Follow Service Machine protocols to report blocked containers, missed pick-ups, or other problems.
- Customer Communication: Relay customer requests or concerns to Dispatch or the Route Manager promptly.
- Container Management: Ensure all containers are completely emptied, and customer locations are left clean and free of debris. Submit customer tickets for excess yardage removal when necessary.
- Container Placement: Position containers on customer properties properly, ensuring lids are securely replaced, containers are upright, and they do not obstruct driveways or traffic.
- Route Completion: Follow assigned routes throughout the day and complete all required documentation upon check-in at the end of the shift.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not include supervisory duties.
IV. Qualifications
The following qualifications are necessary to perform the job effectively:
A. Education and Experience
- Education: No formal education required.
- Experience: No prior work experience necessary.
B. Certifications, Licenses, and Other Requirements
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): A valid CDL (Class B) is required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Pre-Employment Requirements: Successful completion of a DOT drug screen, physical examination, and background check, including employment history and motor vehicle record review.
- Driving Record: An acceptable driving record is required.
